Iconic train scene from Shah Rukh Khan’s DDLJ copied from Sunny Deol’s film?
Released in 1995, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ), directed by Aditya Chopra, quickly became a cultural milestone in Bollywood. Starring Shah Rukh Khan as Raj and Kajol as Simran, the film weaved together romance, comedy, and family drama, capturing the hearts of millions.
But, among all the unforgettable moments in the film, one scene stands out as iconic – the train scene. In this pivotal moment, as the train starts to move, Raj reaches out with one last plea, hoping that Simran will reciprocate his love and choose him over the traditions and expectations of her family. With tears streaming down her face, Simran hesitates for a moment before her father Amrish Puri lets her go. In an unforgettable cinematic moment, Simran leaps onto Raj’s outstretched hand, signifying her choice to be with him.

Scene Copied from Sunny Deol’s film:
The scene, accompanied by Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol’s impeccable performances, is drenched in emotion and symbolizes love’s victory over all obstacles. It became one of the most romantic sequences in Bollywood history.
However, reports have suggested that this scene might have drawn inspiration from none other than SRK’s alleged rival actor Sunny Deol's film. If reports are to be believed, the scene is allegedly copied from Sunny Deol’s superhit movie ‘Saveray Wali Gaadi’ also starring Poonam Dhillon.
In the movie, the lead character (played by Sunny Deol) also has a tense, train-related moment with the heroine, which some suggest influenced the iconic moment in DDLJ. Reports say, Shah Rukh Khan was so impressed with the scene that he decided to recreate it in DDLJ. Regardless of these speculations, the DDLJ train scene remains a defining moment in Bollywood's romantic legacy.
Social Media Reaction:
“That movie is itself a remake of tamil movie Kizhakke Pogum Rail… (toorpu velle rail in telugu),” shared a fan.
Likewise, another fan wrote, “I have seen this similar climax in following movies also: Jab Jab Phool Khile (1965), Parichay (1972) & Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayengey (1995).”
“Not copied... but "INSPIRED" Common... the situation is different in DDLJ & here… if we were to say "copied" using such a low yard stick of measurement…almost 90% of movies would qualify as copied,” shared another fan.
