While promoting his upcoming film War 2 in Sri Lanka, Hrithik Roshan opened up about two major roles he wishes he hadn’t rejected. Surprisingly, both these roles eventually went to Aamir Khan and became milestones in Indian cinema.
Hrithik admitted to passing on Dil Chahta Hai and 3 Idiots, two of Aamir’s most celebrated films.
Hrithik said, "I said no to Dil Chahta Hai, and I said no to 3 Idiots. But I think Aamir [Khan] was the right choice for both those films. It had a destiny."
According to a report by Deccan Chronicle, Hrithik also added, “As they say, it’s destiny. Aamir was phenomenal and carried those films; they belonged to him.”
Notably, Aamir Khan portrayed Akash Malhotra in Dil Chahta Hai and played Rancho (Ranchoddas Shamaldas Chanchad) aka Phunsukh Wangdu in 3 Idiots. Both films remain among Aamir’s most iconic performances. Dil Chahta Hai went on to achieve cult status, influencing a generation of youth and redefining friendship on screen. 3 Idiots, on the other hand, was a box-office phenomenon that shattered records and received widespread critical acclaim for its message and storytelling.
