Actress Shweta Tiwari is one of the most cherished actors in the Indian Television Industry. She ruled the hearts of the audience with her powerful performance as Prerna in the long-running soap opera 'Kasauti Zindagii Kay'. Over the years, she has worked in multiple TV serials and reality shows. Shweta became a household name and, of course, a popular face in the industry with her memorable performances. She also participated in and won the reality TV show Bigg Boss 4. However, she hogged the headlines for her marriage turmoil. The actress faced significant challenges in her personal life. First, she tied the knot with Raja Chaudhary in 1998. However, it ended in 2007 following allegations of domestic abuse and infidelity. Well, it took almost nine years to end her first marriage. While the actress remained mum all these years, she recently opened up about why she took nine years to end her marriage with Raja.

In a recent interview with Galatta India, Shweta revealed why she took nine years to file for divorce despite being in an abusive marriage with Raja.

Notably, Shweta filed for divorce in 2007 on grounds of domestic violence, infidelity, and alcoholism. As accused by the actress, her husband used to beat her every day and also visited the sets of her shows and abused her.

Opening up about her abusive marriage and filing for divorce, Shweta said, "In my entire family, nobody had ever done a love marriage, I had. There were also caste problems that existed in our family, yet I had an inter-caste marriage. People had already started to taunt my mother and judging my marriage."

Further, she added, "On top of that, if I filed for a divorce, it would have been a whole different thing. At that point in time, it wasn’t that I was not financially independent, but it was more of an emotional thing. I was worried for my daughter not having a father while growing up. It was later that I realised that you can have a happy family only when you are mentally happy. It’s not a good upbringing for your child to be in a dysfunctional family. If two people can’t co-exist, it is better to part ways.”

Furthermore, Shweta also revealed that she has been cheated on multiple times. She said, "When you get cheated for the first time, it hits you. You cry, you feel, ‘God, why me?’ You try to fix it, you try to do everything possible to undo it. The second time when it happens, you will realise, this will never stop hurting, this is how it is going to be."

"When the third time you get cheated on, it stops hurting you. It stops having an impact on you. Now, when someone cheats on me when someone hurts me, I don’t complain about it to them. I simply get detached. It’s in their personality to hurt me and now it’s in my personality to not get hurt,” she added.

Notably, Raja and Shweta share a daughter named Palak Tiwari, who recently made her Bollywood debut in Salman Khan's 'Kisi Ka Bhai, Kisi Ki Jaan'.

After Raja, Shweta married Abhinav Kohli in 2013 and they have a son named Reyansh Kohli. However, her second marriage didn't even work out leading to separation. The actress accused her second husband of domestic abuse as well.

Despite her struggles in her personal life, Shweta has remained focused on her career. Even at the age of 43, she leaves her fans gobsmacked with her hot posts on social media.
