The web series based on the lives of courtesans in Lahore and their roles in the Indian freedom struggle, set in pre-independence, received mixed response, Bhansali's signature grandeur is evident throughout the series, from the elaborate sets to the intricate costumes. Moreover, several fans loved the visually opulent and narratively rich web series.

Fans also appreciated the notable performances of Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, and Richa Chadha and were elated to see the comeback of some of the 'lost actors' including Fardeen Khan, Shekhar Suman and Adhyayan Suman. Streaming on Netflix, the web series continues its place in the top 10 trending shows. Following the massive response to 'Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar', SLB,  reportedly, has plans for season 2.

During a recent interview with Bollywood Hungama, Bhansali talked about his visions for Heeramandi. He also talked about the series getting mixed reactions and revealed the possibilities of season 2.

Bhansali was quoted as saying, "First of all, thank you for loving season one. But season two happens or not happens, happens with Netflix announcing it if they want to go ahead with it."

He further added, "They (Netflix) are the producers and they're the best producers ever I have worked with in 30 years. I keep telling them as I've done some good karma that I have had the chance to work with people like y'all. But the decision to do season two comes from them, not from me.”

Notably, actor Taha Shah Badussha stole the limelight and turned the new heartthrob of youngsters, the audience seem to be least impressed with actress Sharmin Segal.

For the unversed, Heeramandi season 1 concluded with Sharmin Segal aka Alamzeb killing British cop Alastair Cartwright to avenge the murder of her lover Nawab Tajdar Baloch. On the other hand, Aditi Rao Hydari as Bibbojaan sacrificed her life for the sake of the country's independence. Meanwhile, all other courtesans within Lahore's red-light district during the British Raj, stepped up to participate in the struggle for independence. If the second season happens, it will focus on the aftermath of Alamzeb and all other courtesans' rebellion.
