Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane engage in digital war of words over Sanam Teri Kasam 2!
Amid the escalating cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan, former co-stars of 2016's Sanam Teri Kasam, Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane have engaged in a digital war of words. The controversy upped to the next level after Rane announced his decision to decline Sanam Teri Kasam 2 if there is a possibility of the previous cast being repeated. Following that the Pakistani actress took a dig at Rane and the Haseen Dilruba actor responded with a befitting reply, without naming his co-star.
Earlier on Saturday, Pakistani actress Mawra Hocane condemned India's attack on Pakistan and stated it to be cowardly. After Harshvardhan Rane announced not working with the previous cast, on Sunday, Mawra once again slammed India's response and wrote, "We could all hear explosions, children in my country died due to an unjustified cowardly attack, innocent lives are lost… A befitting response by my armed forces have caused frenzy in your country last night." (sic)
She further took a dig at Rane and called his exit announcement from Sanam Teri Kasam 2 a PR strategy. She wrote, "Someone I expected to have basic common sense has risen from deep slumber with a PR strategy… While our nations are at war, this is what you come up with? A PR statement to get attention? What a pity!" (sic)
Later, responding to Mawra's post, without naming her, Rane took to Instagram stories and wrote, "That sounded like an attempt at a personal attack. Fortunately, I have tolerance to overlook such attempts—but have zero tolerance for any attack on my nation’s dignity." (sic)
Further, he used a metaphor to validate his perspective and wrote, "An Indian farmer would pluck out the unwanted weed from his crop—it’s called weeding. The farmer doesn’t need a PR team for this act, it’s called common sense." (sic)
He also reaffirmed that his decision was personal and patriotic. He wrote, "“I simply offered to step down from Part 2. I am fully within my rights to choose not to work with individuals who label my country’s actions as ‘cowardly’." (sic)
Without taking Mawra Hocane's name, he further added, "So much hate in her speech, so many personal remarks. I never mentioned her name or resorted to calling her names. Didn’t attack her dignity as a woman. I intend to maintain that standard." (sic)
Notably, earlier on Sunday, Sanam Teri Kasam's director-duo confirmed that Mawra Hocane has been dropped from the upcoming Sanam Teri Kasam 2.
In their statement, Vinay Sapru and Radhika Rao expressed concerns over the silence of Pakistani actors, who have worked in India.
The statement read, "Terrorism of any kind, against any nation, state, or people must be condemned unequivocally. What's even more disheartening in this case is the silence or worse, the statements of certain actors who have worked in India, received immense love, respect, and opportunity, yet failed to condemn such acts of terror against India. In fact, some have gone so far as to criticise India's legitimate steps to fight terrorism. In light of this, we stand by our government and fully support its decision. Nation first and always. Jai Hind." (sic)
