  • Here's an overview of her journey from a KV student to an antagonist in Brahmastra.

Mouni Roy has come a long way from her days as a television actress. As she turns a year older today, here’s an overview of her journey from being a KV (Kendriya Vidyalaya) student to finally getting a good role in a Karan Johar movie.

It was Ekta Kapoor’s Naagin that made her a household name and even today while the franchise comes with new actresses as Naagin every season, it's Mouni who is still considered the original Naagin of Indian television.

Mouni's journey has been full of struggle and it’s the resilience and dedication of the Bong beauty that has now gained her an entry into the A-listed circle of Bollywood.

From a KV student to Television debut

Mouni Roy is a student of Kendriya Vidyala from Cooch Behar and left her Mass Communication graduation degree halfway to shift to Bollywood as she was very much interested in acting right from her childhood. Her big break came with Ekta Kapoor’s Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi which had a fantastic run on television.

From participating in dance reality shows to doing a few other serials, Mouni continued to explore her options in the television industry. But it was her role as Sati in Devon Ke Dev Mahadev and the title role of Naagin that brought her under the scanner of biggies from the Bollywood world.

The big break came with Akshay Kumar’s 'Gold'

Mouni Roy made her Bollywood debut in 2018 with Reema Kagtai’s movie Gold which starred Akshay Kumar in the lead. After getting loads of appreciation for her role as Monobina in Gold, the beauty was next seen as a hot dancer dancing to KGF Chapter 1’s hit song “Gali Gali” which was a recreation of the big hit from the movie Tridev. It was followed by two more movies viz. Romeo Akbar Walter and Made in China.

While the first movie was a dud at the box office, the second one was declared a commercial success.

Two years ago, she made her OTT debut with London Confidential and also debuted as a judge on Dance India Dance Lil’ Masters. With her portrayal of an antagonist in Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt’s Brahmastra, she has reached the highest point in her career.

As of now, Roy has multiple projects lined up including a guest appearance in Tiger Shroff’s Ganapath: Part One, a female lead in Sanjay Gupta’s next sports drama, and a web series by Milan Luthria based on Sultan of Delhi: Ascension book by Arnab Ray.
