Malayalam superstar Mammootty celebrates his 72nd birthday. In his career spanning more than five decades, he has delivered some remarkable performances in around 400 movies and received 3 National Awards, several Kerala State Awards, and more.

That is why, he is deservingly called the “Powerhouse of Malayalam cinema.”

He is a Law Graduate

Mammootty has a law degree and started off his career as a lawyer. Interestingly, he worked as a lawyer for 2 years and after that, realised that he wanted to be a full-time actor. Prior to that, he had worked as an extra in a movie and also did some side roles.

Mammootty has worked in 6 languages

Reportedly, this South Indian superstar is the only actor ever to have worked in 6 different languages. Apart from his mother tongue Malayalam, Mammootty has also acted in English, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi movies.

Was reluctant to shave his moustache for a role

Mammootty wowed with his impeccable performance in the biopic of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. He knew it was a lifetime role but was reluctant to do it initially as he did not want to shave off his moustache.

One of the busiest actors

At the start of his career in the Malayalam film industry, he was showered with so many offers that he became the busiest actor in the country. From 1983 to 1986 he featured in around 120 movies. In just three years from 1983 to 1985, he acted in 34 movies each year.

Multiple ventures apart from acting

Although he is even now more popular as an actor, Mammootty has his fingers immersed in multiple other ventures and activities. He turned television producer in the year 2000 for a serial Jwalayay that aired for around 2 years under the production banner of Megabytes.

The versatile actor also has a distribution company Mammootty Technotainment, and is the Chairman of Malayalam Communications which runs multiple channels. He is also the owner of the distribution company Playhouse Entertainment which distributed movies like Ritu, Three Kings, Chattambinadu, and Living Together.
