Gangubai Kathiawadi Once Asked Nehruji To Marry Her; Check What Exactly Happened!

Alia Bhatt-led Gangubai Kathiawadi is making quite a stir in the entertainment industry. The songs and the teaser promise a complete paisa wasool entertainment and to top it all Ajay Devgn returning to the screen as Mafia don after a long time has also made this Sanjay Leela Bhansali movie highly entertaining.

While the movie is all set to hit the theaters on 25th February 2022, there are many stories about the real Gangubai Kathiawadi that are making rounds. Life for Gangu started like everyone in a small village with her parents eager to make her study and progress in life. But she wanted to make a life in Mumbai and a career as an actress. One wrong step and wrong marriage leads her to a brothel where she becomes a prostitute. The movie is all about her rise from a small-time prostitute to a mafia don.

Interestingly, she turned out to be a savior for women who worked with her and for her and promoted education in children of her group. For making sure that women from brothels are given due respect and benefits that they deserve, she once in 1940 went to meet Jawaharlal Nehru who then was a leading freedom fighter working with Mahatma Gandhi.

During the meeting, Nehruji asked Gangubai, “Why don’t you leave this business and find another job or marry someone?” In her reply, Gangubai said, “If you are ready to marry me I will marry you.” Her reply left Nehruji stunned and he could not say a word. Later on, Gangubai explained that it is easier to say certain things but difficult to do them.

This meeting has been mentioned in the famous book “Mafia Queens of Mumbai” by Hussain Zaidi and reveals a side of Gangubai Kathiawadi that many people never knew about.
