Hindi films now are raking in over INR 500 crores and making a huge impact not just on Indian audiences but on global audiences as well. Here is a list of Indian films that have grossed more than 500 crores at the box office. They include Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavat to Aamir Khan's Dangal and Secret Superstar. 

Dangal 

Inspired by the wrestler duo Phogat sisters, this 2016 sports film grossed Rs 2000 crore globally, making it India's highest-grossing film ever. Aamir Khan plays Mahavir Singh Phogat, an amateur wrestler who mentors his daughters to become world-class wrestlers. The Phogat sisters are portrayed by Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra as adults, while the younger versions are played by Zaira Wasim and Suhani Bhatnagar.

Secret Superstar

Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao produced this heartwarming family film which grossed Rs 977 crore. which tells the story of a young girl who dreams of becoming a singer and secretly posts her videos on YouTube while concealing her identity with a Niqab. There are a number of societal issues addressed in the film, including feminism, gender equality, and domestic violence. Aamir Khan, Meher Vij, and Raj Arjun star in this woman centric film.

Sanju

The movie bagged Rs 587 crore and is actor Sanjay Dutt’s biopic directed by Rajkumar Hirani.  Dutt’s role was essayed by Ranbir Kapoor. Though inspired by his life, the film largely glossed over his torn relationship with his father, his return to the film industry, the criminal cases he faced for illegal possession of AK-56 rifles and more controversial aspects of his life. The film also stars Paresh Rawal, Vicky Kaushal and Anushka Sharma in pivotal roles.

Sultan

Featuring Salman Khan and Anushka Sharma as wrestlers, this romantic tale took off worldwide and grossed INR 623 crores. Aditya Chopra's Yash Raj Films produced the film. This film is about Sultan Ali Khan, a Haryana pehlwan or wrestler and former world champion whose brilliant career caused a rift in his personal life.

Padmavat

Featuring Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, and Shahid Kapoor, this period drama grossed Rs 571.98 crore at the box office. It is based on the epic poem by Malik Muhammad Jayasi named Padmaavat and directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The story revolves around Rani Padmavat, wife of Ratan Singh of Mewar and is known for her beauty. The Delhi Sultanate ruler Alauddin Khilji invades the realm in order to possess her.
