News Highlights

  • Pushpa The Rise and RRR have emerged as the biggest blockbusters post the Corona pandemic.
  • KGF 2 is also hyped to do very well at the box office.
  • Comparatively, the Bollywood movies and stars seem to be falling behind.

SS Rajamouli directed RRR seems to be emerging as the biggest blockbuster of India winning the hearts of millions of Indians in the country and overseas.

While everyone expected the movie to become a big hit, the massive response it received has once again confirmed that when it comes to delivering mega-hits, the Southern directors are much ahead of the Bollywood directors.

Sooryavanshi was the first Bollywood movie directed by Rohit Shetty and led by Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif to release in theaters after the lockdown was lifted. The movie did well at the box office and was declared a hit. But it could not match the massive response that Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna’s Pushpa: The Rise received. The movie created a trend with its songs and hook steps.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiawadi slowly and steadily crossed the 100 crore mark and is a hit. But even then its success cannot be compared to the overwhelming response that Pushpa: The Rise and RRR have received across pan India.

The Kashmir Files was the only Bollywood movie that triggered a movement and got a huge response from the audience. Again it was not because some big star led the movie but rather the way director Vivek Agnihotri told the story about Kashmiri Pandit’s genocide that touched the hearts of Indians. Such was the overwhelming response to The Kashmir Files that even Bachchan Pandey led by Akshay Kumar simply tanked at the box office.

But RRR has managed to slow down the super run of The Kashmir Files and is expected to reach figures beyond Baahubali 2. Next, all eyes are eagerly waiting for the Yash aka Rockybhai to light up the screen through KGF 2.

While many other Bollywood movies like Attack, Tiger 3, Pathan, Lal Singh Chaddha are in the pipeline, the hype for KGF 2 is unmatched. The movie also stars Bollywood veterans Sanjay Dutt and Raveena Tandon and will be released on 14th April this year.

All the three Khans-Salman, Aamir, and Shah Rukh are desperately in need of a big hit to save their stardom. While there is a good lineup of movies for big Bollywood stars like Akshay, Salman, Hrithik, Shah Rukh, Ajay Devgn, and Aamir scheduled to release in 2022 and 2023, the way Southern stars and directors are gaining popularity among the Indian audience across the globe, the competition has become tougher and who knows they may lead the Indian film industry in the next few years.
