Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor
Pakistani actor Fawad Khan, who won hearts in Bollywood with films like Kapoor & Sons and Khoobsurat, may finally be returning to Indian screens. His much-awaited romantic comedy Aabeer Gulaal, also starring Vaani Kapoor, released worldwide on September 12 but notably skipped India due to ongoing political tensions.
The film, earlier titled Abir Gulaal, marks Fawad’s first Bollywood outing after the 2016 Uri attack led to a ban on Pakistani artists in India. While doubts lingered after the Pahalgam terror attack and India’s Operation Sindoor, buzz now suggests that Aabeer Gulaal could release in India later this month.
According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, the film’s producers, Indian Stories Limited (UK), are considering releasing the movie in Indian cinemas on September 26. A source revealed, “The team feels confident that this simple, sweet love story has universal appeal. With no other major release scheduled that weekend, the film could enjoy a solo run in theatres.”
While fans eagerly await Fawad’s comeback, not everyone is on board. The actor faced backlash earlier this year when he condemned the Pahalgam terror attack, but later criticized India’s Operation Sindoor, calling it “shameful.” His remarks sparked online outrage, with many netizens opposing his return to Bollywood.
For now, there is no official confirmation from the makers or the lead stars. But if all goes as planned, Aabeer Gulaal might finally mark Fawad Khan’s big Bollywood comeback on September 26. Whether it draws cheers or controversy, the release is bound to spark conversation.
