Javed Akhtar, Farhan Akhtar
Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is one of the best all-men travel movies from Bollywood. Directed by Zoya Akhtar, Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar, and Abhay Deol played the lead roles in this 2011 release. In this film, Farhan Akhtar plays the role of Imran Qureshi, an advertising copywriter who wants to find his biological father who was missing during Imran’s growing up years.
During the trip, Imran takes his friend Kabir to an art gallery where he comes across the work of an artist called Salman Habib played by Naseeruddin Shah . When Imran comes face to face with Salman Habib he finds out that his biological father never intended to accept him or wanted marriage and a family.
In the recently released docu-web series Angry Young Men based on the lives of the famous writing duo Salim Javed, Javed Akhtar revealed that he was brought up single-handedly by his mother and there was no presence of his father in his growing up years. Jan Nisar Akhtar, the great Urdu poet and lyrics writer of some of the most amazing Bollywood songs was the father of Javed Akhtar who left him with his mother in his hometown to pursue his career in Mumbai.
The pain of Javed Akhtar that he has spoken about in this new series seems to have inspired the character of Imran played by Farhan Akhtar in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. Even the scene from Sholay where Jai (Amitabh Bachchan) goes to convince Basanti’s mausi to marry Veeru (Dharmendra) seems to be inspired by the life of Javed Akhtar .
It is because when Javed fell in love with his first wife Honey Irani, he was not settled as a writer and it was Salim Khan, his friend who approached Honey’s family and convinced them to marry their daughter Javed Akhtar who later on became one of the most famous writer-lyricist of Bollywood.
