Kids and youths of the late 80s and 90s still must be in awe of Falguni Pathak's 'Maine Payal Hai Chhankai'. The mesmerising music composition and Pathak's magnificent voice blended the 1999's song in an ecstatic way that is still cherished even after several years. However, the recreation of the iconic song didn't go well with the original singer as well as several music lovers.

Recently, the remake of 'Maine Payal Hai Chhankai' was released in Neha Kakkar's voice. The singer herself is also seen performing in the music video titled 'O Sajna'. While the composition has been altered a bit, the lyrics also have been changed, however, the signature tune and hook line of the remake song has close similarities with the original.

Though the newly released video has garnered over 20 million views, the comment box is flooded with remarks supporting Pathak. Several music lovers lashed out at Neha for 'ruining' the original. Though Pathak didn't write anything and fumed over the rendition of her song, she took a dig at Neha and reshared the comments made by her fans in her Instagram story.

Later in an interview, she cleared the air that neither the makers nor Neha tried to reach out to her before making the song. Even after releasing the song, the makers didn't bother to contact her. When asked if she would take legal action against the makers or Neha, she expressed her helplessness. She said that she was unable to do so as she didn't have the song rights.

O Sajna features Priyank Sharma and Dhanashree Verma, apart from Neha herself. On the other hand, Tanishk Bagchi composed the song, who is known for recreating old hit Hindi songs. Bagchi is credited for the rise of Dhvani Bhanushali in the music industry. Throughout his career, he has composed several songs, most of which are remakes of old songs. It is not just Bagchi, several other composers also are preferring remakes instead of creating something original.

The trend of movie remakes was adopted several decades back. Nowadays, the music industry seems to be leaning towards remakes leaving music lovers disheartened and fumed. Be it movies or music videos, the makers have been bringing the remakes of several old iconic songs with a few changes. The recent support for Falguni Pathak and the criticism for Neha and the makers say it all.
