DDLJ Iconic scene
Even after 30 years, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ) continues to hold a special place in the hearts of cinema lovers. Aditya Chopra’s 1995 romantic classic, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, gave Bollywood one of its most iconic moments, the train climax where Raj pulls Simran aboard as her father finally lets her go.
Now, Grammy-winning composer Ricky Kej has stirred nostalgia and debate by questioning the logic behind this beloved scene. But as fans rush to defend their favourite love story, the internet proves one thing: some cinematic moments are best left untouched by logic.
The 1995 romantic drama’s climax sees Shah Rukh Khan’s Raj pulling Kajol’s Simran onto a moving train as her strict father, played by late Amrish Puri, finally gives his blessing.
Sharing the scene on X (formerly Twitter), Kej humorously wrote, “If any of the filmmakers had ever been on a train… they would have known Kajol could’ve entered from any door and reached Shah Rukh Khan.”
Social media was quick to counter Kej’s observation.
One user pointed out, “She was wearing a lehenga which restricts movement. Plus, the train was running fast. If she boarded alone, she’d risk falling.”
Another argued, “Sleeper coaches in the 90s weren’t always interconnected.” Kej laughed off the replies, thanking users for their detailed analysis.
Romantics urged Kej not to overthink, with one fan writing, “Please don’t let logic spoil a good old love story!”
Another summed it up perfectly: “Reaching Shah Rukh Khan wasn’t the only goal. Reaching audiences was.”
As DDLJ marks 30 years this October, it’s clear the magic of that train scene still resonates—even amid debates of logic vs. love.
