Chris Pratt as new Batman? James Gunn clears air on 'Star-Lord' in DC’s future
When David Corenswet was officially announced as the new Superman, many fans were left underwhelmed. His casting sparked debates across superhero forums, with some calling it uninspired compared to Henry Cavill’s era. Amidst this, a fresh wave of rumours surfaced suggesting Marvel’s Chris Pratt could don the cape and cowl as Batman. The speculation sent fans into a frenzy.
The swirling speculation has finally been addressed by DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn. While speaking in an interview with Peluche En El Estuche, Gunn shut down the Batman rumours head-on. When asked whether Pratt could be his Dark Knight, Gunn responded, “As Batman? No. As something else? Yes.”
That single line was enough to ignite a fresh wave of theories. If not Bruce Wayne, then who? Fans quickly began throwing names into the ring, ranging from a charismatic Green Lantern to the time-traveling showman Booster Gold, or even a big-screen villain worthy of squaring off against Superman.
David Corenswet’s portrayal of Superman marked the official launch of DC Studios’ Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, a sweeping reboot of the DC Universe under the guidance of James Gunn and Peter Safran. This unified creative blueprint spans both live-action and animated properties- films, TV series, and more- crafted to build a richly interconnected superhero world. Naturally, Batman remains one of the most anticipated reimaginings, with the upcoming film The Brave and the Bold set to introduce a new version of the Dark Knight and his son, Damian Wayne.
But despite all the buzz, Batman’s new actor remains unconfirmed. Andy Muschietti, best known for 'It' and 'It: Chapter Two', is on board to direct, while the script is still under development.
Even though Gunn has ruled out Pratt as Batman, he hasn’t ruled him out of DC entirely. Their long-standing collaboration on Guardians of the Galaxy makes it almost inevitable that Pratt will join the DC family in some form. Whether it’s as a wise-cracking hero or a formidable villain, the odds are strong that fans will eventually see Pratt step into this new cinematic universe.
For now, the mystery of who will wear the cape and cowl in The Brave and the Bold continues. But one thing is certain- Chris Pratt isn’t out of DC’s plans. If anything, his future role might end up being more surprising than the internet’s Batman theories ever imagined.
