Chris Hemsworth’s viral post
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, no goodbye is ever truly final, but Chris Hemsworth’s recent post has fans bracing for impact. A nostalgic tribute video shared on his YouTube channel has led many to believe that Thor, one of the last standing Avengers from the original lineup, may finally meet his end in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. And honestly? The signs are everywhere.
“Playing Thor has been one of the greatest honours of my life,” Hemsworth wrote in the caption to the video, which compiles his 15-year journey as the God of Thunder. “Thank you for making my journey through the Marvel Cinematic Universe unforgettable. Next up, Doomsday!”
While that final line clearly references ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, the tone of the message has fans rattled. It reads less like a promo and more like a eulogy, especially given the absence of any major Marvel anniversary to warrant this emotional post.

Oh he’s DEAD dead…

This feels super sentimental in a "Thor dies in Doomsday" type of way. 🥹

Marvel Studios didn’t repost or promote it either, which has only fuelled speculation that Hemsworth may be preparing fans for a major exit.
The timing of this tribute is no coincidence. Hemsworth’s last solo outing, Thor: Love and Thunder (2022), received a lukewarm response.
Criticised for its erratic tone and reliance on slapstick, it left many fans disappointed and unsure about Thor’s narrative future. Even Hemsworth later hinted in interviews that the character needed a creative overhaul if he were to return.

Set to release on December 18, 2026, Avengers: Doomsday is rumoured to be a brutal, final stand for several legacy heroes. Reports suggest the film will follow a ‘no-resurrections’ storyline, much like Infinity War, but possibly with even more permanent consequences.
Despite death rumours, not all signs point to the end. There’s also chatter about Thor 5 being in early development, possibly with Furiosa director George Miller in talks to take the helm. Hemsworth reportedly introduced Miller to Kevin Feige himself, a move that suggests the actor might not be done just yet. This supposed fifth film is expected to be a darker, more grounded take, perhaps a redemption arc following the missteps of Love and Thunder.
So while “Next up, Doomsday” sounds ominous, it could just as easily be Hemsworth revving up for his boldest, most meaningful performance yet.
