Biggest Bollywood controversies and embarrassments in 2022: A year to forget

Bollywood was rocked with a lot of troubles this year. From big flops and disasters to the controversial behaviour of the stars, many things caused embarrassment to the Hindi film industry. To top it all, the boycott trends continued to haunt the star kids and other big superstars in Bollywood and negatively affected the performances of some big movies like Laal Singh Chaddha at the box office.

Here are such biggest controversies and embarrassments that hit Bollywood in 2022.

Poster of Kaali

The uproar was created when an Indian filmmaker Leena Manimekalai posted a poster from the movie Kaali which showed Goddess Kaali smoking a cigarette. The picture offended many people because the poster also showed Kaali holding a Trishul in one hand while her other hand held the LGBTQ pride flag. This led to many slamming the filmmaker saying that the poster disrespected Goddess Kaali and that Leenaji should be punished for the same. Many FIRs were filed against the filmmaker but she did not change the poster.

This Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt movie did very good business but before its release received a lot of backlash because the trailer showed the lead actor entering the temple wearing shoes. It led to a boycott trend which later on stopped after the director Ayan Mukerji explained that the actor is not entering a temple but a Durga Pandal. Ranbir Kapoor’s earlier interview showing the actor supporting beef-eating also irked many while his statement about body-shaming his pregnant wife also led to a lot of criticism.

The Kashmir Files Row

The Kashmir Files was the most surprising hit of 2022. Although it was a big hit across the country, the movie did not receive much support from A-listed celebrities from Bollywood. Many big names from the film fraternity slammed it for exaggerating the incidence of genocide by Kashmiri pundits. However, a row was triggered when recently during the International Film Festival in Goa the head of the jury Nadav Lapid called TKF propaganda, vulgar. It triggered a huge debate among the film fraternity.

The nude shoot of Ranveer Singh

Ranveer Singh’s nude photoshoot caused a lot of uproars a couple of months ago. Multiple FIRs’ were filed by Mumbai Police against him under various acts while netizens slammed, trolled, and ridiculed him heavily. Later on, the Bollywood actor explained that someone had morphed his pictures and the original pictures had him covering his private parts.

The year was disastrous for Jacqueline Fernandez. Not only her movies bombed at the box office but her personal life also took a toll after her connections with conman Sukesh came into the light. She had to face ED questioning and investigation after photographs and evidence pointed out that she had a fling with Sukesh. Things turned uglier when Nora Fatehi booked an FIR against Jacqueline for taking her name in the case.
