Bhagyashree 'disliked' herself after working with Salman Khan! Know why
Actress Bhagyashree debuted alongside Salman Khan with Maine Pyar Kiya in 1989 and became an overnight sensation. The romantic musical film helmed by Sooraj Barjatya, proved to be a big break for both the actors and the director. Though Bhagyashree worked in several movies, Maine Pyar Kiya remains her best-known film and most successful movie for which she bagged the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. As the actress turns 56 today (February 23), let's revisit the moment when the actress 'disliked' herself.
In an earlier interview, Bhagyashree admitted that there was a phase in her life when she disliked herself. After her blockbuster debut movie Maine Pyar Kiya, she eloped with Himalaya Dassani and married him. Later, they were blessed with kids, Abhimanyu Dassani and Avantika Dassani. She stepped away from the glam world and dedicated herself to her family life. She carried out her duty as a housewife.
During an old interview with Pinkvilla, Bhagyashree recalled about the difficult phase while dealing with depression. Bhagyashree said that she lost belief in herself and no one from her family was around her. She also revealed the emptiness she felt due to the same.
She said, "Belief in yourself is very important I think somewhere in between my life I lost belief in myself and that was a phase of my life where my children weren’t there with me, Avantika had gone to London, husband was doing very well so he was traveling a lot, his work took him out a lot and for me, it was almost an emptiness and I started questioning myself on who I am, what do I really like, what makes me happy, what makes me smile.”
Further, she added, "Aaj log bahut aasani se bolte hain ‘depression’, we didn’t know at that time what depression was maybe that’s what I was going through at that point of time. And somewhere down that line I looked at myself in the mirror and asked myself would I like to be friends with who I see in the mirror and I said no, and I didn’t recognize myself and I said that’s not who I should be, and I need to change that narrative for myself.”
Well, Bhagyashree gave the entire credit to her daughter Avantika, who brought her back from the state of depression. Though Avantika was not with her, she advised her mother to make new friends. She also talked to the family and discussed about her mother's troubled phase. Well, this support from Avantika worked for Bhagyashree.
