Disco Dancer music composer and singer Bappi Lahiri’s death shocked everyone. He gave some big hits which are a huge craze even today with Bollywood music lovers. During an interview earlier, the Bong musician can be seen giving some tips for composing a hit song that can appeal to everyone.

Bappi Lahiri said, “Mein study kiya hoon un logon ke saath. Kaise gaana, Kounsa gaana pasand ayega. Kuch nahi Madhuri Dixit ka ek gaana tha. Humko aajkal hai intezar koi aaye leke pyar. Isme koi antara nahi tha, sirf ek line or chorus. Gana hit karne ka ek hi hona chahiye, beat achha hona chahiye. I am not talking about the melodious. Agar uska catchline achha ho na. Jo pehle chalta tha who aaj bhi chalta hai.Aap public ko khush kar hi sakte hai who catch line se.”

And indeed, it seems that Bappi da knew how to make hit songs and kept on using good beats and catchy lines in all his songs. Be it “Tamma Tamma loge” picturized on Madhuri Dixit, or “Kabhi Alvida naa Kahana” from “Chalte Chalte”, both these songs had some foot-tapping beats and catchy lines that made these songs a big hit.

Apart from being a big music composer, Bappi Lahiri was also a very good singer and some of his songs are iconic and are heard lovingly even today. Be the cult classic “Yaad aa Raha hai” from Disco Dancer, “Pyar Chahiye” from College Girl, “Raat Baki” from Namak Halal or “ Tamma Tamma loge” from Yaarana, his voice had that special combination of melody and depth that left an indelible mark on the minds of the listeners.

As a rule, Bappida never sang for any other music director but was finally convinced by the music composer duo Vishal Shekhar. He did sing a few songs for them but the biggest hit was the “O la la O la la” from Dirty Pictures which became one of the biggest hits of the last decade.
