Back-to-back flops for Nayanthara: Has she lost the superstar stardom to young actresses?

Nayanthara, the big superstar of the South film industry seems to be struggling to maintain the strong hold that she once enjoyed. Known for giving big superhits like Anaamika, Maya, Airaa, Ghajini, Billa, and Chandramukhi the lady superstar of Southern movies has not delivered a big hit in the last few years.

Of course, her Bollywood debut movie Jawan was a superhit but all the due credit was taken by director Atlee and superstar Shah Rukh Khan. It was quite obvious that Nayan despite being promoted as the leading lady of Jawan had comparatively a very small role as against the lead female she is used to playing in Southern flicks.

So if Jawan is put aside, then her last 10 releases like Nizhal, Netrikann, O2, Godfather, Gold, Connect and many more were super flops. It seemed that the audience did not have any interest in watching a movie of Nayanthara. On the other hand, young actresses like Rashmika Mandanna and even Pooja Hegde are doing quite well for themselves.

Slowly and steadily they have grabbed meatier roles and ensured a good place for themselves in the South film industry. Even Bollywood divas like Kiara Advani and Mrunal Thakur have earned a place in the hearts of South Indian film lovers and getting big-banner movies. Nayan who was the only South Indian actress to be a part of the Celebrity 100 list of Forbes India in 2018 suddenly seems to be nowhere.

There is no doubt that Nayanthara is one of the biggest actresses in South cinema but success is critical for the career of an actress. Without a superhit, the career of an actor cannot survive in the entertainment industry. With big actors like Allu Arjun, and Prabhas preferring young actresses, and new faces getting introduced in the industry every other day, Nayanthara needs the right film and production banner that can re-establish her as one of the best as earlier.
