Bollywood’s famous music composer Anu Malik turns a year older today. Known for giving some smashing hits in the ’90s like “Yeh Kali Kali Ankhe” and “Churake Dil Mera,” in his career of more than 40 years, this son of veteran film music composer Sardar Malik has also courted some serious controversies from sexual harassment to piracy allegations.

And these allegations have certainly marred his image both as a person and as a creative music director. However, he never stopped doing his good works and continues to contribute to the Indian music industry.

Charges of sexual harassment

Anu Malik is a father of two daughters. That is why when leading singers from Bollywood like Neha Bhasin and Shweta Pandit slammed him for indulging in alleged sexual harassment, people were shocked. These two singers accused him of sexual harassment. Following these allegations, he was forced to step down as judge from Indian Idol.

Another singer Sona Mohapatra also accused him of inappropriate behaviour. Two other women made serious allegations against the “Moh Moh Ke Dhaage” composer saying that Anu Malik tried to take advantage of them when there was no one present in his house.

Years before this #Metoo movement Alisha Chenai who sang some big hits like “Ruk Ruk Ruk” for Anu Malik had accused the composer of sexual harassment. The “Kajrare” singer had even sued him and during an interview said, “When I sued (Anu) Malik, I fought it alone. It was an unprecedented landmark verdict and a restraining order was passed against him. The man has repeatedly begged for my forgiveness. I have chosen to forgive him and moved on."

That is why when the #Metoomovement was started against Anu Malik, Alisha had said that every allegation of sexual harassment thrown at the composer was true.

Anu has been often accused of plagiarism

Anu Malik has been accused multiple times of copying compositions of other global music directors and using them in his songs. From stealing the Israeli national anthem for Ajay Devgn’s Diljale to using Mory Kante’s song for Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhe, the web users have come up with innumerable numbers that have been copied by Anu Malik and gained fame and money for the same.

It is often claimed that the advent of social media killed the career of Anu Malik as all the global music became available to everyone. Even then it cannot be ruled out that he has given some wonderful and original songs in his long career.
