Ranbir Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna starrer ‘Animal,’ directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, made waves at the box office, raking in over Rs 800 crore since its theatrical release on December 1, 2023. The highly anticipated OTT release on Netflix was set to enthrall fans starting January 26, 2024, but a legal dispute has now cast a shadow over the film's streaming debut.

Reports reveal that alleged co-producer Cine1 Studios has taken legal action against T-Series, filing a case in the Delhi High Court.

According to DNA report, Cine1 Studios claims that T-Series has not fulfilled its financial obligations related to Animal's intellectual property rights. According to the complaint, both production houses had a contract stipulating a 35 per cent profit share for Cine1 Studios, and they are entitled to a similar share through intellectual property rights.

Cine1 Studios argues that T-Series breached the Acquisition Agreement, demanding a halt to Animal's release on Netflix until the financial matters are resolved. Senior Advocate Sandeep Sethi, representing Cine1 Studios, stated, "They (T-Series) have been collecting all the money, but I have not been paid a single penny... I have a long relationship with them, but they do not respect the agreement. I had regard for the relationship and the sanctity of the contract, therefore, I did not rush to court."

However, Senior Advocate Amit Sibal, representing T-Series, countered that Cine1 Studios did not invest money in the film and relinquished all intellectual property rights for Rs 2.6 crore. He cited an amendment made on August 2, 2022, stating that the agreed amount was paid.

The next hearing of the case is scheduled for January 18, 2024, leaving the fate of Ranbir Kapoor's ‘Animal’OTT release uncertain.
