Anant Ambani-Radhika Merchant wedding: 5 most expensive Indian weddings ever

Hundreds of celebrities including pop sensations Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Beyonce, Kim Kardashian, John Cena, and Bollywood superstars among others attending India’s richest man Mukesh Ambani’s son Anant Ambani’s wedding with his ladylove Radhika Merchant nothing less than a fairy tale.

The couple had several pre-wedding bashes and spent Rs 1000 crore before finally tying the knot on July 12. As their wedding celebration continues, look at some of the most expensive Indian weddings ever. 

1.    Isha Ambani and Anand Piramal – Rs 700 crore

Just before Anant Ambani, Mukesh Ambani’s only daughter Isha married businessman Anand Piramal in 2018. Back then, it was one of the most expensive Indian weddings ever, costing a whopping Rs 700 crore. Isha’s wedding attire alone cost Rs 90 crore. Mukesh also gifted the couple a bungalow worth Rs 500 crore as a wedding gift. Beyonce took away Rs 33 crore for a personal concert for the guests.

2.    Vanisha Mittal and Amit Bhatia – Rs 550 crore
Vanisha Mittal, the daughter of Indian steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal married banker Amit Bhatia. The celebrations took place over a week in France at a whopping cost of Rs 500 crore. This much was spent back in 2004. The event included performances by stars like Kylie Minogue, Shah Rukh Khan,  Aishwarya Rai, and others.

3.    Sushanto and Seemanto Roy – Rs 550 crore
The double of siblings Sushanto and Seemanto was an extravagant affair. Held in Lucknow, the sibling duo, children of Sahara India Pariwar chairman Subrata Roy had quite an expensive wedding. At least 11,000 guests attended the wedding with more than 15000 poor people being given free food.

4.    Brahmani and Rajiv Reddy – Rs 500 crore
The grand wedding celebration of Brahmani, daughter of mining baron Gali Janardhana Reddy with Rajeev Reddy, son of Vikram Dev Reddy, a Hyderabad-based business tycoon was one of the most expensive ceremonies back then. Lasting for at least five days at the Bangalore Palace in 2016, the wedding cost Rs 500 crore and was attended by 50,000 guests.

5.    Shristi Mittal and Gulraj Behl – Rs 500 crore
Shristi Mittal, daughter of Indian businessman Pramod Mittal and chairman of Ispat Industries Limited (now JSW Ispat Steel) married investment banker Gulraj Behl in 2013. The wedding celebration was conducted in Spain and continued for almost a week. The Mittal family spent a whopping Rs 500 crore.
