Amitabh Bachchan FINISHED! Illustrated Weekly 'reduced to ashes,' Big B continues to soar after 34 years

Millennium star Amitabh Bachchan is the only Indian actor who can carry a film on his strong shoulders, even at 81. His performances in Kalki 2898 AD, Goodbye, Jhund, Gulabo Sitabo, Badal, Bbuddah...Hoga Tera Baap, etc. are a few of the examples. With his versatility, he turns the character his own and impresses the audience. However, things were not the same three decades back. Big B witnessed a downfall with multiple disasters. Laal Baadshah, Major Saab, Mrityudaata, Ajooba, Jaadugar, Toofan, and Gangaa Jamunaa Saraswati failed to impress the audience. With this a popular magazine declared 'Amitabh Bachchan FINISHED.'

Amitabh Bachchan FINISHED!

A couple of days back, filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri shared the cover page of an old magazine that people might hardly remember. And recently, Ram Gopal Varma shared the same and stated that even after 34 years, Amitabh Bachchan continues to soar while the magazine is nowhere.

After Gangaa Jamunaa Saraswathi's debacle, which was released in 1988, the magazine took the Angry Young Man's picture to its cover page and wrote, "FINISHED!"

Further, it wrote, "With the crash of Gangaa Jamunaa Saraswathi, is it the end of the road for the superstar?" (sic)

Sharing The Illustrated Weekly of India's cover page, RGV wrote, "34 years back ILLUSTRATED WEEKLY magazine STATED this on its COVER and now ILLUSTRATED WEEKLY is FINISHED and @SrBachchan⁩ is SOARING." (sic)

After Gangaa Jamunaa Saraswathi, Big B had multiple flops, including Hum, which also had Rajinikanth and Govinda in pivotal roles. Undeniably, Big B witnessed a downfall after multiple flops; though a few of his movies like Agneepath and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan became blockbusters.

Big B's 2nd innings

However, Big B bounced back for his second innings after a brief hiatus. 2000's blockbuster Mohabbatein with Shah Rukh Khan in the lead, had a supporting role of Big B. But, the role was impactful and loved by all.

Later, he went on to host the popular TV show Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) which became a huge success. Then he played lead characters in Baghban, Black, Cheeni Kum and several other movies.

Recently, Amitabh Bachchan essayed the role of immortal Ashwatthama in Kalki 2898 AD. His powerful and energetic performance shadowed all other major characters in the movie including Prabhas' Bhairava. Big B left everyone's jaws dropped and the audience is eagerly waiting for its second part to see more performances of Big B.

Amitabh Bachchan: The Torchbearer of Indian Cinema

Well, under such a scenario, we can recall some iconic dialogues of the Millennium Star that aptly fit with the situation.

"Hum Jahan Khade Hote Hai, Line Wahim Se Shuru Hoti Hai" and "Rishte Mein Toh Hum Tumhare Baap Lagte Hain... Naam Hai Shahenshah."

By true means, Amitabh Bachchan is the torchbearer of Indian cinema and his influence will continue to inspire generations.
