Amitabh Bachchan debuted as an actor in 1969 with Saat Hindustani. Later, he featured in 1971's cult classic Anand, alongside superstar Rajesh Khanna. He garnered appreciation for his role as Dr Bhaskar Banerjee, however, despite that, luck didn't favour him. He worked in multiple movies but all bombed at the box office. It was 1973's Zanjeer with which Amitabh Bachchan tasted his first success as a lead actor. Zanjeer was a turning point in his acting journey which revived his career. But, before that, the series of flops left him discouraged and he decided to quit acting. Surprisingly, he also decided to become an auto-rickshaw driver.
During a recent episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati, Big B opened up about how the series of flops left him discouraged. After that, he decided to quit acting and become an auto-rickshaw driver. But, when Salim-Javed cast him in Zanjeer, fate took a different turn and his role in the movie changed the course of his career.
He also shared that before coming to Mumbai, he had worked in Kolkata and earned Rs 400-500 per month. He moved to Mumbai with determination to succeed in the dream city and had also obtained his driving license, planning to drive a taxi if acting didn't work.
