Ameesha Patel on life, love: 'People half my age want to date me'
Ameesha Patel, the actress who won hearts with Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai and Gadar, has always lived life on her own terms. While her contemporaries settled down, Ameesha chose to remain single- largely because she wasn’t willing to sacrifice her passion for acting. Even today, at 50, she continues to receive marriage proposals, many from men much younger than her.
Opening up on Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast, Ameesha candidly shared why marriage never happened for her. She revealed that most of the men she met wanted her to quit films and stay home after marriage- a demand she simply could not accept.
“People who love you will let your career prosper. I have lost a lot for my career, and I have also lost a lot for love. I have given up both things for the other, and I think that I have learnt from both,” she reflected.
Ameesha recalled her one serious relationship before entering films. Her partner came from a prominent South Bombay industrial family, much like her own. “It ticked all the boxes,” she said, but once she decided to pursue films, he opposed the idea of her being in the public eye. Ameesha chose her career over love- a decision that shaped her path forward.
Despite her past, Ameesha hasn’t shut the door on love. “I am all up for marriage, as long as I find someone worthy. They say that ‘Where there is a will, there is a way,’ so the person who finds me through everything and 'mauke par chauka maarlege' will be my person,” she smiled.
Interestingly, she continues to receive proposals from affluent families and even men half her age. “People half my age want to take me out on a date, and I am open to it because a man has to be mentally mature. I have met a lot of people older than me that have the IQ of a fly,” she quipped.
