  • Ramya Krishnan and Huma Quershi earlier portrayed Jayalalitha and Rabri Devi respectively in web series.

The OTT platforms in India are now offering different types of content to the audience. While most of the content still focuses on portraying a male-centric world, there are a few web series that depicted bold and aggressive female politicians that have won the hearts of the viewers.

Huma Qureshi in Maharani

This particular web series has done wonders for the career of Huma Qureshi who has been struggling to carve a niche for herself in Bollywood despite being in the industry for almost a decade now. Maharani is a story based on the real-life of famous political couple Lalu Yadav and Rabari Devi and Huma just nailed the character of the traditional Bihari Chief Minister Rabari Devi who took over as the CM of Bihar after Lalu Prasad Yadav was forced to step down due to legal hassles.

From adopting the simplicity of attire and behavior as a Bihari housewife to perfectly copying the language, accent, and gestures of the politician, Huma has certainly done a wonderful job in Maharani.

Ramya Krishnan in Queen

The Baahubali fame actress was loved as a fiery politician in Queen which is a web series based on the life of Tamil Nadu’s celebrated politician Jayalalitha. While Kangana Ranaut did impress as Jayalalitha in her movie Thalaivi, Ramya also received rave appreciation for her performance.

Mahie Gill in Raktanchal 2

Dev D fame actress Mahie Gill will be seen in a never before avatar of a politician in Raktanchal 2 in which she plays the role of Saraswati Devi. Reportedly this character is loosely based on the life of the former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati. In this series, Mahie will dress up in salwar suits in brown and pastel shades similar to that of Mayawati.

The series will start streaming on MX Player soon and will throw light on certain true events that occurred during the 90s and are full of deceit, revenge and how the power games between the four leaders portrayed by Ashish Vidyarthi, Nikitin Dheer, Vijay Singh and Mahie Gill take place.
