Vikram Bhatt-Mahesh Bhatt-Mukesh Bhatt
The much-awaited flick 'Aashiqui 3' seems to be happening but without the magical collaboration of T-Series and Mukesh Bhatt. However, there's a twist! Filmmaker Vikram Bhatt recently took to social media and revealed that Mahesh Bhatt is developing a new film which he claims is a reimagining of the 'Aashiqui' franchise. However, the movie's title will be without using the word Aashiqui. The new movie is titled titled 'Tu Meri Puri Kahani' and it will be helmed by Suhrita.
Taking to Instagram, Vikram Bhatt shared a video that showed behind-the-scenes glimpses of Mahesh Bhatt. While he expressed his admiration for the veteran filmmaker, he captioned the post, "It's ironical that parties should fight over the title Aashiqui when my boss (Mahesh Bhatt) made the film and did not even find the need to stake claim. Then I said to him, like the dialogue from the film Deewar, "Mere pass Bhattsaab hai! Don't need any title when I have the one who creatively engineered it! Let's do it again! A new boy - new girl love story with great music!" Boss thought a while and then said - "I have a story. Suhrita will direct it." TU MERI POORI KAHANI was born." (sic)
Further, he wrote, "Then came @ajay_murdia and he understood our dream and made it a reality! Here is the man Mahesh Bhatt and his rage - kicking a** like no one else does!" (sic)
Well, though not directly, Vikram's indirect dig makes it clear that 'Aashiqui' belongs to Mahesh Bhatt and he doesn't require the particular title to make another 'Aashiqui.'
Notably, T-Series collaborated with Bhatt for Aashiqui (1990) and Aashiqui 2 (2013) both the movies under the Aashiqui. They had also previously discussed producing the third instalment.
But, conflict began after Mukesh Bhatt's company, Vishesh Films Private Limited and T-Series Super Cassettes Industries Limited, reportedly, sought to produce the third instalment of the franchise. Mukesh Bhatt took legal action against T-Series.
Bhatt asserted that he and T-Series share joint ownership of the previous films and any sequels under the Aashiqui franchise. Next, Bhatt claimed that without Vishesh Films' approval, T-Series was trying to take over the franchise and produce the third instalment with Aashiqui 3 or 'Tu Hi Aashiqui Hai' title.
On September 3, 2024, the Delhi High Court barred Bhushan Kumar's T-Series and its affiliates from using the titles with the term 'Aashiqui'. Justice Sanjeev Narula issued an interim injunction and acknowledged that 'Aashiqui' is not a standalone term but is integral to the well-known series with successful entries in 1990 and 2013.
