Well, both Aamir Khan and Kajol wanted to play Max's role as the character was charismatic.

Aamir Khan Was All Set To Play Max?

Helmed by Mansoor Khan, the unofficial adaptation of 1961's American Musical 'West Side Story', Josh starred Shah Rukh Aishwarya, Chandrachur Singh, Sharad Kapoor and Priya Gill in key roles.

During an interview with PTI, Mansoor Khan revealed that his cousin Aamir Khan was supposed to be a part of Josh. Notably, Aamir was offered to play the role of Shirley's (Aishwarya) love interest, Rahul. However, he turned down the offer. Surprisingly, he was interested in playing Max's role. Even the PK star was gearing up to play Max.

As Aamir had earlier worked with Mansoor in multiple projects like Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar and Akele Hum Akele Tum, the Dangal actor assumed that his cousin would cast him in the central role.

Recalling the incident, Mansoor said that when he narrated the script to Aamir, the filmmaker didn't explicitly assign roles, and the actor automatically assumed he would be playing Max. The situation took an unexpected turn when Aamir arrived at Nasir Hussain's office, already immersed in Max's persona. He even wore a glove on one hand. However, Mansoor didn't correct him immediately. But, later, when he informed him that SRK had been finalised for the role of Max, Aamir chose to opt out of the project.

Kajol Wanted to Play Max, not Shirley!

Before locking Aishwarya for playing Shirley, the filmmaker had approached Kajol to play the role. After hearing the narration, Kajol reacted unexpectedly. However, as she was leaving, when Mansoor asked if she was interested in playing the role, Kajol replied, "I want to play Max."
