Aired in 1987, Ramayan was the most expensive show, costing 9 lakh per episode. During its initial run, the show reportedly earned 40 lakh per episode. 

2. Reel to Real-life

Bal Dhuri and Jayshree Gadkar, who portrayed the roles of Dashratha and Kaushalya, got married in real life.

3. Breaks Records with Immense Popularity
Ramayan has broken many records by grossing 650 million viewers and audiences spreading in 55 countries. With audience demand, the show was extended 3 times, ending up with 78 episodes and surpassing originally planned 52 episodes.

4. A Limca Book of Record

Ramayan also holds a Limca book of record as the most-watched mythological series ever.

5. Only Talent Matters

Dipika Chikhlia, who portrayed the role of Sita Maa, was only 15 years old when she became a part of the most-viewed series.

6. The Effect was Almost Real

Historian William Dalrymple mentioned in The Telegraph that in Delhi the government meetings would be cancelled to watch Ramayan. The streets would be empty and shops closed as the people would gather around the TV to watch Ramayan.
