Eminent filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s 12th Fail emerged victorious after breaking the stereotypes and has set a new benchmark. Appreciation for Vikrant Massey’s 12th Fail continues to flood social media. And the lead actors are riding high on the success of the movie.

The fan base of Vikrant Massey and Medha Shankr has increased stupendously after the success of the movie. Now, all eyes are on the next projects of the lead actors.

Recently, reports were abuzz that Vikrant has come on board for Ekta Kapoor’s yet-to-be-titled socio-political thriller. As per the reports, the story is based on a shocking true story that shook the nation in the early 2000s and changed the political scenario in India.

Now, the latest reports have revealed more about the plot. As per the reports, Vikrant will feature in ‘The Sabarmati Report’ along with Raashii Khanna and Ridhi Dogra. The movie is based on the Godhra train burning incident of 2002. Produced by Ektaa Kapoor’s Balaji Motion Pictures, the story is written by Aseem Arrora and will be helmed by critically acclaimed director Ranjan Chandel.

On Monday, the makers made a formal announcement in the form of a title poster, and a video was shared on social media by the production house.

Furthermore, the makers shared a press note revealing details about the plot. The Sabarmati Report is inspired by true events that took place in the Sabarmati Express on the morning of 27 February 2002, near the Godhra railway station. On that morning, the Sabarmati Express was set on fire by rioters at the Godhra station, leading to the deaths of 59 Hindu pilgrims and karsevaks, who were returning from Ayodhya. The incident led to a chain of events that culminated in the Gujarat riots of 2002.

Further, the press note read: The cause of the fire in Sabarmati Express has been disputed multiple times. A 2006 report by the Banerjee Commission called it an accident. However, the Gujarat High Court quashed those findings. Two years later, the Nanavati-Mehta Commission concluded that the fire was pre-planned arson by a Muslim mob. A trial court convicted 31 people in 2011 based on these findings.

Following the success of 12th Fail, Vikrant signed another movie based on a shocking real-life incident that shook the nation and changed the political scenario in the country. Undeniably, the latest reports must have fuelled anticipation among many.

If the latest reports are anything to go by, the movie is slated to hit big screens on May 3 this year.
