AB de Villiers on Friday announced his retirement from all formats of cricket. With this, his almost 10 years of association with the IPL team Royal Challengers Bangalore also came to an end.

The announcment was more than shocking for his fans and also his cricketer friends. India's Test and ODI captain Virat Kohli has posted an emotional message on social media.

"To the best player of our times and the most inspirational person I've met, you can be very proud of what you've done and what you've given to RCB my brother. Our bond is beyond the game and will always be," tweeted Kohli.

He further said, "This hurts my heart but I know you've made the best decision for yourself and your family like you've always done. I love you @ABdeVilliers17."

Kohli's wife and actor Anushka Sharma also shared a note on AB's retirement news while called it as 'heartbreaking'. “One of the greatest men and cricketers I've had the privilege of knowing and watching. Wishing you, Danielle and the kids the very best in life always. You guys deserve everything beautiful and so much more, this is truly heartbreaking," Anushka wrote on her Instagram story while sharing a picture of the most devastating batsman.
