Student of the Year today completes 9 years of its release. There are many unknown facts and interesting things related to this flick. It was the debut movie of all the 3 lead stars- Alia Bhatt, Sidharth Malhotra, and Varun Dhawan who are all doing very well in Bollywood currently. Interestingly, this was the first movie produced and directed by Karan Johar that did not include Shah Rukh Khan.
Karan made his directorial debut with Kuch Kuch Hota Hai with SRK in the lead and what followed was a series of hit movies including Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Kal Ho Naa Ho, My Name is Khan, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, and so on. The leading producer time and again had stated that for him Shah Rukh was like an elder brother and he will always be a permanent part of his movies.

But things changed when Karan Johar decided to cast fresh new faces in the lead for Student of the Year. While the script required the lead actors to be young and SRK was way past 40 years, even then Shah Rukh sort of got upset with Karan for not making him part of this movie. The drift stretched further when Student of the Year became a massive hit and was appreciated by almost everyone from the film fraternity, but there was not even an acknowledgment from the Badshah of Bollywood.

It hurt Karan Johar badly. While speaking on this issue afterward, the Koffee with Karan host said that SRK was hurt because he was not a part of Student of the Year and Karan felt that there was no love and support from Shah Rukh despite the movie being such a big hit. The famous director further added that having contributed hugely to each other’s careers we both were like two people sulking.

However, the issue was sorted quickly and both of them continue to be very close friends of each other. Even now while Aryan Khan is in judicial custody in a drug case, Karan is one of the few celebs from Bollywood who has been supporting SRK and his family in all ways possible.
