Upload ABC credit data by December 31, UGC tells HEIs

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has released an important notice regarding the uploading of credit data on the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) portal.

As per the latest UGC notice, the Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) have been asked to complete the necessary formalities by December 31, 2024.

“The last date for uploading of credit data on the ABC portal is December 31,2024, post which the HEIs shall not be allowed to deposit credits on the ABC eco-system,” UGC notice read.

The HEIs should prioritize the data upload to meet the deadlines and complete the upload of ABC ID mapped credit data relating to the Academic Years 2021,2022 and 2023. Further, all HEIs are required to upload credit information immediately post completion of assessments and declaration of results.

What Is ABC Bank Of Credits?

The Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) has been established which digitally stores the academic credits earned from various recognized Higher Educational Institutions (HEls).

The role of academic institutions is critical by ensuring timely upload of credits to the APAAR credit repository and depositing them in the students' APAAR accounts. This is essential to facilitate the redemption and transfer of credits, said UGC.

As per UGC, the National Education Policy 2020 envisions moving towards a higher educational system consisting of large, multidisciplinary universities and colleges and aims to create imaginative and flexible curricular structures promoting a credit-based system that encourages flexible, integrated and multidisciplinary education.
