UGC-NET December 2024 Exam postponed; check details
The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Monday announced that the UGC-NET examination scheduled to take place Wednesday, January 15, 2025 has been postponed, on account of the festivals of Pongal and Makar Sankranti.
A new date for the test will be communicated later.
The NTA stated, "We have received requests to postpone the UGC-NET December 2024 examination due to the Pongal, Makar Sankranti, and other festivals occurring on January 15, 2025." In consideration of the applicants, the NTA has decided to postpone only the UGC-NET December 2024 exam scheduled for January 15.
The examination scheduled on January 16, 2025, would be conducted. The UGC-NET December 2024 exams are going to be held from January 3 to 16.
This is the first time the NTA has held the national-level test during this period. The exam, which facilitates admission to PhD programs, awards Junior Research Fellowships (JRF), and appoints assistant professors, is being conducted from January 3 to January 16 for 85 subjects in the Computer Based Test (CBT) mode.
On January 15, exam was scheduled to be conducted in 17 disciplines, such as mass communication and journalism, Sanskrit, Nepali, law, Japanese, women's studies, Malayalam, Urdu, Konkani, criminology, folk literature, electronic science, environmental science, and Indian knowledge systems.
Last year, UGC-NET too was rescheduled due to several apprehensions expressed by the Education Ministry over the 'integrity of the examination process'.
