UGC imposes ban on 3 universities for awarding Ph.D degrees
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has debarred three universities in Rajasthan for allegedly violating the existing provisions of Ph.D regulations and academic norms for award of Ph.D degrees.
The three universities are- OP JS University, Sunrise University and Singhania University in Rajasthan.
As per the latest UGC notice, these three universities in Rajasthan have been debarred from enrolling students under the Ph.D program for the next five years, from the academic year 2025-26 to 2029-30.
The restrictions have been imposed based on the recommendations of the Standing Committee which was earlier constituted by the UGC to monitor whether universities are following the procedure and awarding Ph.D degrees in accordance with the existing regulations.
As per the UGC, the three universities in Rajasthan were given an opportunity to explain why they failed to comply with the provisions of UGC Ph.D regulations. However, the responses received from these universities were not found satisfactory and the standing committee subsequently recommended the UGC to debar them from further enrolment of Ph.D students for the next five years.
“Prospective students and parents are advised not to take admission in the Ph.D programme offered by the above three universities from now onwards. In the absence of UGC approval, Ph.D awarded by these universities shall not be treated recognised/valid for the purpose of higher education and employment,” the UGC notice read.
