M Rohini
M Rohini from Pachamalai Hills under Tiruchirappalli district in Tamil Nadu has created history by becoming the first tribal girl from the district to get admission into an Institute of national Importance. The 18-year-old tribal student has secured a seat at the National Institute of Technology-Tiruchy by clearing the JEE examination.
Rohini secured 73.8% marks in the JEE Mains and topped the state among the 29 tribal schools. Rohini appeared for all exams, including NEET, CLAT and JEE. She scored 73.8% in JEE Mains and through the Joint Seat Allocation Authority, she got a place in NIT-T for Chemical Engineering.
“I am a student from a tribal community who studied in a tribal government school. I appeared in the JEE exam and secured 73.8 per cent. I have secured a seat in NIT Trichy and I opted for Chemical Engineering. Tamil Nadu state government has come forward to pay all my fees. I thank the Chief Minister for helping me. I performed well because of my headmaster and the staff of my school,” Rohini told ANI.
“I can’t forget my teachers’ hard work in the past two years. They encouraged me to appear for all the examinations. I have always wanted to be an engineer, and now I will study at NIT-T. I will try my best to help students from my school to achieve the same,” she added.
Notably, hoping to build a future for their children, Rohini’s parents, both construction workers, migrated to Kerala.
