Life is always a gamble and Soumya Ranjan Dash took the biggest risk by quitting a corporate job but finally cracked the UPSC Civil Services Examination, 2022. Soumya Ranjan Dash secured an All India Rank of 136 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2022, the results of which were published today.

Situation Before Results

“I was confused till yesterday and also in fear of whether I would be able to get a rank or not. It is my second attempt. In the first attempt, I had appeared in the interview, but managed to secure a rank this time,” said Dash.

Soumya Ranjan Dash graduated in electrical engineering from IIT Kanpur in 2021. Later, he joined a company as a software development engineer. In his first UPSC attempt, Dash was preparing along with the job. Later, he appeared for the prelims and after qualifying, he quit his job in July last year to concentrate on preparing for the UPSC full-time.

“There was fear in my mind to take the risk and quit my job. However, I had some knowledge about the corporate sector and I simultaneously carried on with the job so that there was no experience loss,” recalled Dash.

According to Dash, reaching the interview round in the first attempt gave him a lot of confidence. It was then he decided to prepare with confidence after quitting his job.

Turning Point

After my third-year internship and during the Covid lockdown in particular, my inclination for UPSC was more as I got an opportunity to think about my career option. “If I had not cracked the UPSC, I would have returned to the corporate sector,” said Dash.

Success Mantra

"I had no professional coaching support. But once I got the idea, it became easy. A lot of content is available online and the aspirants can get some idea on how to attempt the UPSC. I watched toppers’ interviews and got some ideas and it also gave me confidence. I also identified the resources and gave multiple tests to analyse myself,” Dash added.
