The State Skill Development Department on Wednesday informed that all the Technical institutions will reopen in Odisha from August 9. However, the institutions will reopen only for the final year students. Besides, hostels will reopen for the students, the department further informed.

"...considering the improvement in COVID-19 situation in the State, the Government have been pleased to direct all the Technical Universities, Engineering and Professional Colleges, Polytechnics & Diploma Institutions and ITIs of the State, under the administrative control of the Skill Development and Technical Education Department, to re-open their respective Institutions for the final year students with effect from 09.08.2021 following Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) as annexed at Annexure-A," reads a notice by the department.

The physical classroom teaching for final year students shall commence from 09.08.2021 after all precautionary measures such as complete sanitizatlon and disinfection of classrooms, laboratories, hostels etc, are taken as per the COVID guidelines, it reads.

The department has also reportedly ordered to open the hostels while strictly adhering to the Covid guidelines to ensure safety of students.

It may be recalled, as part of the Unlock process, the State government allowed reopening of schools for class 10 and 12 students and they opened from July 26.

The schools were opened strictly complying to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) issued by the State School and Mass Education Department to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Meanwhile, the offline classes of standard 9 students are expected to start from August 16.

On the reopening of educational institutions in the State, Minister Arun Sahoo has already stated that a detailed discussion on reopening of colleges is underway and a decision will be announced at an appropriate time.
