UGC
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a public advisory urging students, parents, and the general public to ensure that degrees are obtained only from recognized universities and institutions.
According to UGC regulations, degrees can only be awarded by institutions established under a State Act, Central Act, or Provincial Act, or by institutions that are legally empowered to confer degrees under the UGC Act, 1956. However, it has come to the commission’s attention that several unauthorized institutions are offering degrees in violation of these provisions.
The UGC has clarified that degrees awarded by such unapproved institutions will neither be recognized nor considered valid for higher education or employment purposes. Students are therefore advised to verify the recognition status of any institution before seeking admission.
To avoid falling prey to fraudulent institutions, the UGC has urged students and parents to visit its official website (www.ugc.ac.in) for a list of recognized universities and fake institutions.
Additionally, if anyone comes across universities or institutions violating UGC norms by offering unauthorized academic programs, they are requested to report such cases to the UGC via email at ugcampc@gmail.com for appropriate action.
This advisory serves as a cautionary measure to protect students from investing in unrecognized degrees that could jeopardize their future academic and professional prospects.
