In a major announcement, Odisha government on Monday declared closure of all schools in the State for a period of five days starting tomorrow.

The decision has been taken in view of the severe heatwave conditions that have been prevailing in the State for the past couple of days.

"Government after careful consideration have been pleased to suspend the classes of all Educational Institutions under S&ME Department i.e. Government, Government Aided and privately managed (Odia & English medium) from 26.04.2022 to 30.04.2022 (except for examination which has already been scheduled by BSE & CHSE)," read a letter issued by the School and Mass Education Department.

It is pertinent to mention here that several parents across the State had expressed resentment over continuance of physical mode of teaching in schools despite rise in the maximum temperature. The rise in the mercury was causing severe inconvenience to the students as well as their guardians as it had almost become impossible to venture out in the sun after 10:30 am.

Though the State government had earlier announced for the summer vacation from June 1, a lot of guardians were demanding for advancing the vacation in view of the heatwave conditions.

Despite the closure of schools, the upcoming matriculation or the class 10 and +2 board examinations will be held as per schedule.
