The schools that either merged or closed during the previous BJD government will be reopened, said School and Mass Education Minister (S& ME) Nityananda Gond on Tuesday.

According to the Minister, there are such schools that were either merged or closed down on the basis of false reports during the previous government's tenure. He said steps would be taken to reopen these schools.

The closed schools will be reopened in those areas where there is enrollment, where students have to travel a long distance and where there is a demand for the same, said the Minister.

“Some schools were either merged or closed in tribal areas. After the closure of the schools, students are travelling a long distance to go to another school.  The previous government closed down some schools on the basis of false reports. There are students and people are also demanding the reopening of the school. As of now, I have directed our department’s secretary to make an enquiry and submit a report. As per the report, where there is a requirement, we will take a decision for their reopening,” he added.
