The entire Odisha is now in the grip of an intense heatwave situation. This has forced the State government to order the closure of schools, colleges and other educational institutes as a precautionary measure.

As per the decision, the government has announced temporary closure of schools till April 30, 2022.

The School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash on Thursday said that a decision regarding the reopening of the schools will be taken after reviewing the heatwave conditions on April 30.

Dash’s statements came in response to a media query whether the State government is contemplating to extend the temporary break in view of the prevailing heatwave situation.

“On account of prevailing heatwave conditions, the government decided to keep the schools closed till April 30. From media reports, we are learning that the heatwave conditions will persists for some more time,” said Dash.

According to Dash, if the heatwave conditions persist, the State government will take appropriate decision on the reopening of the schools after reviewing things on April 30.

“If the heatwave conditions continue, an appropriate decision will be taken based on IMD prediction and necessary guidelines issued by the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC),” Dash added.
