The recent unlock guidelines announced by the Odisha government, to some extent, has paved way for the reopening of educational institutions in the State.

Higher Education Minister, Arun Sahoo on Monday said that already a detailed discussion on reopening of colleges is underway.

“Already discussions are being conducted and the decision will be announced at an appropriate time,” said Sahoo.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Odisha government has already announced the guidelines for the month of August as part of its graded Unlock measures.

Speculations are also rife about reopening of schools for students of Class I to VIII.

As per the Unlock guidelines issued by the SRC on Saturday, all educational institutions including coaching centres shall function as per the guidelines issued by respective departments.

However, the State government has imposed certain restrictions on Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Puri which are reporting high Covid-19 cases. Though the weekend shutdown in other parts of the State has been lifted, the restrictions will be continue on Saturdays and Sundays in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Puri.

Already schools for classes 10 and 12 students were opened from July 26 while offline classes of standard 9 students are expected to start from August 16.

“Discussions are underway to reopen schools for class I to 8 students. A decision in this regard will be taken soon,” School and Mass Education Minister, Samir Dash said on Sunday.
