Students under the aegis of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (AVBP) and Naba Nirman Yuva Chhatra Sangathan (NNYCS) on Monday staged a demonstration in front of the office of the Bhadrak District Collector protesting the alleged irregularities in getting admission into the Bhadrak Autonomous College by producing fake disability certificates.

The students gathered outside the Collectorate and submitted a memorandum to the District Collector demanding an investigation into the existence of a racket that allegedly makes fake disability certificates to facilitate illegal admission in the college.

Tension has been prevailing in the college campus after an RTI query revealed that students with 40 per cent marks are getting admission by producing bogus person with disabilities (PWD) certificates.

Satya Prakash Rout, AVBP Bhadrak District Co-ordinator alleged, “The racket is making a mockery of the education system in one of the premier colleges of the State. Some members of the BJD have helped students get admission to the college by providing fake PWD certificates. We submitted a memorandum to the Collector and demanded him to constitute a committee which will carry out a probe into the matter.”

The agitating students also threatened to intensify the protests if their demands were not fulfilled within a week.

Nasiruddin Khan, a member of Naba Nirman Yuva Chhatra Sangathan said, “Not just Bhadrak Autonomous College, the leaders of the ruling party have also become middlemen in several government offices in the district. We condemn the happenings and will gherao Naveen Niwas and the residence of the Education Minister if the people involved in the racket are not booked at the earliest.”

“The Principal of the college has been directed to verify the certificated following which further action will be taken as per law in this regard,” said Trilochan Majhi, Bhadrak district collector.
