The All India Council For Technical Education (AICTE) has extended the deadline for completion of mandatory teacher training beyond July 31, 2022. As per the latest AICTE public notice, the deadline has now been extended for a period of two years till July 31, 2024.

It is pertinent to mention here that mandatory teacher training has been prescribed as a necessary requirement for the promotion of the teachers working in technical institutions (degree and diploma level) under the 7th CPC AICTE Regulations 2019.

As per the provision, the teachers who are eligible for promotions after the date of publication of Gazette, shall have to meet the necessary conditions such as additional qualifications, undergoing industrial training, pedagogical training, faculty induction programme, publishing research papers, etc.

The AICTE announced for extension after it was brought to the notice that it was not possible for the faculty members to complete the mandatory teacher training by the above-mentioned deadline due to the prevailing Covid pandemic situation and non-availability of training modules.

“As a natural corollary to this, the faculty members will not be able to avail the benefit of promotion retrospectively from the date of eligibility, which in turn cause financial loss to them. Keeping in view, the reasons and circumstanccs for not completing the mandatory teacher trainings by thc faculty members are beyond their control, the matter has been considered sympathically and it has been decided to extend the deadline of July 31, 2022 for a period of two years," the AICTE notice read.
