The demand to postpone the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) has grown louder as the candidates, who will appear for the GATE 2022, took to Twitter to press for their demands.

The candidates have been demanding postponement of GATE 2022 in view of the recent surge in Covid-19 cases across the country. They also urged IIT Kharagpur to consider their demands.

GATE is scheduled to commence on February 5 and continue till February 13. The admit card for the exam, which is expected to be appeared by over 8 lakh candidates, has already been released.

As per reports, more than 45,000 candidates have joined an online petition demanding postponement of the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering in February.

A Twitterati wrote, "Why are you playing with our Career. Maybe it's just an exam for you but for us it's the question of our whole career. Please look into this matter from the perspective of student's health and career."

"Entire India is witnessing more than 2.5 lakh cases per day and @IITKgp has announced the GATE exam dates amidst this horrible situation. So I urge the government to act upon and postpone the exam to save the lives of the students," wrote a Twitter user.

Some also threatened IIT Kharaghpur of a massive protest. "@IITKgp what do you want from GATE aspirants?, do you want them to go on to a physical protest like RRB NTPC aspirants?, Coz ur negligence to digital protest indicates the same," wrote another Twitterati.

Aspirants and students are really so worried about their future. The Government is not looking so concerned about the employment, and this makes them feel so insecure, said another user.

On the other hand, India on Sunday reported 2,34,281 new COVID-19 positive cases and 893 deaths. With this, the total number of active cases in the country has gone up to 18,84,937.
