The Odisha government has decided to start Class 10+2 teaching in 40 schools across the state from the academic session 2023-24, State School and Mass Education Department Minister Samir Dash said on Monday.

The transformation of schools up to higher secondary level will be effected in some selected institutes depending on several factors. Initially, the upgradation exercise will be implemented in 40 schools considering the distance of the educational institute from the nearby college, student strength, and availability of infrastructure.

Several schools in the state are being developed into smart schools under the 5T initiative and the government expects that infrastructure will not be a major hurdle, said Dash when asked about feasibility of the upgradation drive.

He further said the government will first ensure that all facilities are in place before commencing class 11 courses from the next academic session in the selected schools.

As far as teaching and other requirements like faculty are concerned, Dash said, recruitment of teachers is underway.

"The government has already recruited 53 teachers and apart from that higher education teachers and guest faculty are also being considered for filling up the required posts under the transformation initiative before the upcoming academic session," said the Minister.
