The Odisha government may re-cast its Civil Services Coaching scheme to better the prospects of entry of aspirants to the national and state bureaucracy. The State Higher Education department has flagged such a possibility in a letter to the Chief Resident Commissioner, government of Odisha.

Citing concerns over the general perception that the number of candidates from Odisha breaking into All India Civil Services Examinations is decreasing year by year, Odisha government has expressed interest in knowing the exact number of students who have successfully cleared the country's premier central public service exams in the last 10 years.

The Higher Education Department wants to know the exact number of students of Odisha who have successfully cleared All India Civil Service Examinations conducted by the UPSC in last 10 years. Basing on this information, the HE department may also have to re-cast its ‘Civil Services Coaching’ scheme, the State government letter stated.

The Higher Education department further said that since it does not have the wherewithal to collect the information on its own, the Chief Resident Commissioner has been asked to kindly collect this data from UPSC office and send it to the Principal Secretary to the government.
