Ahead of the reopening of schools in Odisha tomorrow, the School and Mass Education department Secretary Bishnupad Sethi on Sunday stated that there is no risk to students on account of summer heat as there is a possibility of drop in maximum temperature in the State.

In a statement, Sethi said that the State government has already rescheduled the school timings from 6 am to 9 am with effect from May 2, 2022.

“As ascertained from IMD, temperature at any station in Odisha by 8.30 am is around 32 to 34 degree centigrade during May. So by 9.00, the maximum temperature is not likely cross 35 degrees. We are expecting temperature to fall from today. So by 9.00 am, it would not even reach 33 degrees,” said Sethi.

As per the decision, the State government has asked schools to close by 9.00 am after serving midday meals. The children will benefit both on account of learning loss recovery lessons and midday meals.

“Since the government and government aided schools are located in the vicinity of children, there’s no risk on account of summer heat,” Sethi added.

The Learning Recovery Plan (LRP) prepared by Odisha School Education Programme Authority (OSEPA) will be conducted during this summer vacation. The LRP will be applicable for government and government-aided schools.

The students who are being promoted from class 3 up to class 10 including new admissions and also for class 11 students who will be promoted to class 12 will be covered under this plan.
